James Pibworth and the Alexandria Riots, Egypt
James Pibworth was an engineer with the Royal Navy. He had studied at the Royal Hospital School in Greenwich and joined with his ship at Portsmouth. He was killed in 1882 during the sudden uprising at Alexandria, Egypt. He had left the ship for a walk around the town with a couple of other officers, when the uprising began and he was caught in the middle. Fellow officers managed to get his body back to the ship but he died from multiple stab wounds. His body was returned to Portsmouth where he was buried at Kingston Cemetery.
